The General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) is an academic qualification awarded in a specified subject, generally taken in a number of subjects by students aged 14–16 in secondary education in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) qualification is completed in F.4 and F.5 (Year 10-11). GCSE poses less restriction on subject choices which allows students to do arts subjects alongside with science subjects. Students who take the standard 2-year GCSE programmes normally study seven to ten subjects. Passing grades are A* to C.
