The Village School

We believe in hands-on learning, and in some cases, that means grabbing a turkey leg and portraying Henry the VIII! Every year, Village 7th-graders study the Renaissance, culminating with a feast that transforms our gymnasium into a magnificent hall, filled with student-painted “tapestries,” banqueting tables and candles. In advance, each student is assigned a character to portray, ranging from royalty to peasants. They research their character and select a costume. They study the games, dances and pastimes of the era. Then, with the help of many dedicated parents, we stage our Renaissance Feast, complete with performances of Shakespeare, dancing and other merriments. It’s a day younger students dream of, and one older students say they’ll remember for a lifetime.
